Why Sagebrush?
California sagebrush (Artemisia californica)
I have personal interest in foraging and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Staying connected to native plants has acted as a mindfulness practice that adds to my well-being. Sagebrush is a native plant that is abundant in the Los Angeles area. Thus, it was one of the first plants I learned to identify. It is strongly aromatic and is expertly adapted to our local landscape, weathering drought and fire resiliently.
The plant has been used by native communities for a multitude of uses from pain relief to rituals.
“California sage brush is used to bring back pleasant memories. Burn it or put it in a sack and smell it to bring back pleasant memories.” Cecilia Garcia, Chumash Healer
Naming my practice after the sagebrush plant is about honoring our natural environment and indigenous people. It also symbolizes adaptability and resilience, strengths that we help clients cultivate as they embark on their healing journey.
